Jane Austen fanfictions.

One of my obsessions, they have earned their place right next to Lord-of-the-Rings and Grey’s Anatomy Fanfictions. By the way: Combining genres is nice. If there’s nothing new in one genre than you can look into the other and normally there is something you haven’t read before.

But before we really start: First things first.

We (that means Angelika and I – Fiora) are two German fanfiction-obsessed (reading and writing), Jane Austen-loving, LotR-worshipping, books-mass-consuming girls (19 and 20 at the moment) who want to provide some tips for readers of fanfiction.

Generally we will write in English, but it may be that there are posts in German, too. But don’t worry, when it is German we will just handle German fanfictions.

Comments will be welcome and if there’s anything you would like to know – no matter what – say something and we will try to answer.

So, and now…

Let’s get it started with our first fanfiction.

Of all indignities is an enchanting Pride & Prejudice fanfiction published by gretomy on the AHA and the HG. It is a WIP.

The five Bennet siblings move to Longbourn because they inherited the estate after the death of Mr Collins. The arrival of this mysterious family causes a lot of frenzy in the neighbourhood but the Bennets themselves have to deal with some occurrences in their past. After the Netherfield party is gone off to London Jane is heartbroken but when the Bennets return to London themselves they are the event of the season.

Charles Bingley, his sisters and Fitzwilliam Darcy have to find out that the Bennets are not poor gentry like they thought them to be…

The fanfiction has started just at the end of May, so far we have reached chapter 17 and I have to say that I’m absolutely enthralled.

First of all the idea to reverse the entail and then gretomy writes absolutely marvellously. It is her first fanfiction by the way so congratulations for this!

The way the Bennet siblings are portrayed is absolutely lovely and she hints bits about their pasts masterfully. Sometimes she reveals something but never enough to answer all the questions she raises.

Her characters – especially Bingley I have to point out at he moment – do not receive what they want immediately. They have to work for it, earn it.

Personally I have to say that I like it when Bingley has to work for Jane. It shows that he is not only the nice, helpless, little puppy but that he can act when he wants to do it.

I’m looking forward for the next chapters and I hope I was able to fill you with a little enthusiasm about this fanfiction. If you read it be so kind to leave a comment for the author (a comment for us would be nice too *wink* )
